twilight jug
stoneware with slip [2020] 230x160x140 mm

twilight jug is quite an angel and one of my more traditional vessels. I wanted to play with the surface on such a traditional shape using engraving and rubbing two different slips into the grooves. I chose to engrave stars, flowers and vines all over the jug as I had just watched A Midsummer Night’s Dream play at the theatre and felt drawn to natural forms and the concept of the night time. Therefore, I added many small details on the vines, flowers and stars to create a slightly ethereal and magical feel at play on the surface.

I love building jugs as I have always felt drawn to the practicality of a jug which is so much more domestic than a pot and wanted to play with the idea of practical vs decorative.
