Francie Brown is a multidisciplinary artist based in Bath and currently an artist in residence at 44AD artspace after graduating with a first class degree earlier this year from Bath School of Art. Francie’s practice centres around the amalgamation of ceramic vessels, soft sculptures and paintings to create playful environments. Which act, almost as sets, playing out scenes of the domestic space.
The role of play and intuitive making are essential to the construction of these sets. In addition, play is intrinsic to the
aesthetic decisions made when building the ceramics vessels. Influenced heavily by Roman pottery, Francie pushes these classical forms towards a farcical reflection of the traditional utensil. With impulsive decisions being vital to the sculptural process and aesthetic choices.
Francie has exhibited in exhibitions at Walcot Chapel, The Holburne Museum and most recently curated GUTS Contemporary Sculpture exhibition at 44AD artspace.
Lately, Francie has moved into stop-motion animation and has produced a film for Bath County Council which centres around young people and Covid-19. When she isn’t creating work at 44AD she is a Specialist Youth Worker at Bath Area Play Project.
Current graduate artist in residence at 44AD Artspace and Studios.
